About BalanceLift
BalanceLift is an independent educational resource helping everyday consumers better understand credit, manage debt, and make informed financial decisions.
Why we exist
Money questions often arrive at stressful moments: a statement that looks higher than expected, a score that dropped, an offer in the mail that’s hard to decode. Clear, neutral information is harder to find than it should be, because so much of what’s online is written to sell something.
BalanceLift takes a different approach. We explain how credit scores, credit reports, APRs, repayment methods and budgets work, show the arithmetic, and link to official sources such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission so readers can verify what they read.
What we do — and don’t do
- We publish free guides across four topics: Credit Confidence, Debt Management, Borrowing Basics, Financial Fresh Start.
- We build free calculators that run in your browser and don’t store what you enter.
- We don’t lend money, arrange or broker loans, negotiate balances on anyone’s behalf, or offer services to change credit reports.
- We don’t recommend, rank or receive referral fees from lenders, card issuers or other financial companies.
- We don’t provide personalized financial, legal or tax advice. For guidance about your own situation, consider a nonprofit credit counselor or a licensed professional.
How our guides are written
Every guide is written in plain language, uses worked examples whose math can be checked, avoids promises about outcomes, and ends with links to official sources. We review guides periodically and show the date each one was last updated.
